LEXICART: word as object
The central point of the exhibition is word as a portable object, and not as encrypted information expressed as writing on a flat surface. These are words as entities divorced from semantics, these are cricket bats used as murder weapons and kitchen knives used as screwdrivers. They are the foreign languages you cannot read and can only comprehend the aesthetics of the forms.

"400 Women"
400 Women is a project conceived by artist Tamsyn Challenger in response to the brutal murder and rape of more than 400 women over a decade in the U.S. border town of Ciudad Juarez and the region of Chihuahua in Mexico. Some 200 artists have each painted one of the murdered women, confronting us with a safeguarding in our memory the dead and disappeared.
London Design Week - Sunbury Workshops
In the city fringe areas of Shoreditch the Design and media industries are thriving - so it is good to see a pocket of RCA graduates setting up shop in Sunbury Workshops located in the Boundary Estate which straddles the boroughs of Hackney and Tower Hamlets . The Boundary, a result of a radical social programme which demolished the east end slums of the infamous “Jago”, is now home to new “designer-makers”. Web and ‘ap’ architects, hi-fashion jewellers, and chic interior designers... are fast replacing the old trade ateliers: leather, shoe and handbag artisans, carpenters and furniture makers. During the London Design Week the new ‘artisans’ of Sunbury Workshops opened up the gates and welcomed everyone to see their wares.
RCA Soc AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the RCA Society took place at AND 'eventSpace' on Sunday 20th June 2010 • from 11am. Members received the annual report covering the Society's activities for 2010 and elections for 'officers' and committee members were held. See the following link for Committee details: http://www.rcasociety.net/management
The AGM was followed by the "Boxed in Time" art event. http://www.rcasociety.net/content/rca-soc-event-boxed-time
Boxed in Time
'Boxed in Time' was an original art event created by society members where each participant brought along a box of their own size and shape, containing or forming their own miniature exhibition item. Anything was possible as long as it could be contained. Each box was opened one by one for all to see the great creativity inside. After the opening sessions the boxes and their contents were placed around the gallery space for all to inspect. A raffle decided which box each person was allowed to take home and there were some keen exchanges. Overall it was a very entertaining social art event, complete with home made food from members plus drinks.
