RCA Show Painting 2010
This year Painting & Sculpture was separated out from Shows One and Two and took place in the RCA's "Fine Art" complex in Battersea. The Painting studios are now located in the purpose built 'Sackler Building' (opposite the Sculpture School). Society members took the opportunity to 'criss-cross the road' to decide winners of the 'RCA Society + Thames & Hudson Art Book Prize'.
RCA Fashion Show 2010
The annual Fashion Degree Show at the College is always a must see.
RCA Society members and associates were there too - using the occasion to also select a winner for the 'RCA Society and T&H Art Book Prize'. Amidst all the fashion aficionados you may recognise members and design colleagues from the trade who are designing, co-ordinating, buying, teaching or reporting.
RCA Show 1, 2010
RCA Society members met up at the opening of "Show One" - not only to enjoy what is a jolly occasion to bump into old friends (and maybe make new ones) but also to decide on their nominations for this year's "RCA Society and Thames & Hudson Art Book Prize". Send your nominations immediately and make sure to meet up at the other shows opening nights.
"From Floor to Sky" exhibition
This significant exhibition, curated by Peter Kardia, of contemporary British sculpture opened at the P3 Galleries this week. "From Floor to Sky" brings together 28 artists, all graduates of the RCA and St Martins, whose radical and political approaches shifted the practice of sculpture away from the established forms or subject matters. All the participating artists continue to be influential in several spheres - from holding professorships and lectureships at the RCA and other leading art schools in Britain and throughout the world to showing works in international exhibitions or collections. The timing of the show - which precedes potential political change in the coming months - is highly appropriate and the exhibition's location in Westminster University's huge subterranean "industrial" gallery space Ambika P3 is well worth a visit.
