The Winners
Each year, during the annual Degree Shows, around thirty RCA Society members see all the degree shows and put forward nominations for the “RCA Society and Thames & Hudson Art book Prize”. This year the selection criteria was again for work that shows “exceptional skill and innovation in a particular discipline, as well as being critical and challenging across the area of art and design”. The process of selecting the winners is long and thorough. The increasing number of students graduating from the College means that there is a lot of work to see and it’s all exceptional! So it takes time for the ‘judges’ to arrive at final decisions. However, this event is one of the most stimulating and enjoyable of activities - and especially pleasing for everyone who takes part. The prize is special too, as it is not only ‘judged’ by practitioners who are all graduates of the College, it is also awarded to graduates who represent each of the ‘schools’ therefore giving 18 to 24 individuals the opportunity to select books of their own choice, to the value of £150, from Thames & Hudson’s wide range of publications. This makes the prize one of the most “generous” prizes awarded to students graduating from the College.
