Futurebuild + Ecobuild
Earls Court - London
3-5 March 2009
The Futurebuild exhibition, together with Ecobuild, is the biggest of its kind in the UK, with 800 optimistic exhibitors representing a huge breadth of innovative and sustainable construction products anywhere in the world. From building structures to SUDS, micro-renewables to natural materials, synthetic insulation to living roofs, air and water purifiers, wind turbines, solar systems, traditional crafts and happy families - you'll find it all at Futurebuild.
There are extreme positions from "there is a big problem" to "there is no problem" hand in glove with big business and plenty of slogans... 'global warming' .... 'carbon footprinting'.
There is also a sense of madness - forests are torn down, fields and open spaces are concreted over whilst any remaining wood, sand and stone is transformed into "habitation containers" of all sizes decorated with turf roofs and waterfall cascading walls.
You really have to hand it to the birds...
We have no choice but to live on this planet and therefore it's in our interest, especially as designers, to ensure that it is habitable and sustainable. We are responsible because we have all participated in bringing it to its present condition. Including Dyson..... and the next injection of architects, product, industrial and automative designers that will hit the streets running this July.
