On the eve of Halloween RCA Society members went along to the preview of Victor Burgin's exhibition at P3 Galleries...

The exhibition of photo works snaked through the vast former concrete construction hall that is now the University of Westminster’s P3 Galleries. “Sense of Place” locates Burgin’s photo documentary narratives in a maze structure where viewers are presented with a series of puzzles and discourses around an ongoing power struggle between visual language and the written.

Burgin’s work “...explores relationships between words and images—he sees this not as separate entities but rather as a hybrid form producing a ‘virtual’, psychological, image...”.

Since graduating from the Royal College of Art (1962 - 65) Victor Burgin is noted as a ‘political’ photographer, writer and academic - His “conceptual “works are underscored by theorists and philosophers such as Karl Marx, Foucault and Barthes. His academic work as a lecturer has located him in universities across the world - predominantly San Francisco, Santa Cruz, New York, and London.
