Meet up at V&A Friday Lates
On the last Friday every month except May and December the V&A is open late. The event usually has a theme, which highlights a part of the V&A’s vast collection or focusses on a specific aspect. One month the theme was water, and last month it was circus skills. Whatever the theme it’s a brilliant excuse to wander around the V&A to see their wonderful artefacts and at the same time enjoy the ‘party-like’ atmosphere enhanced with cocktails and music.
Since the RCA is gradually moving away from its Kensington campus, it’s leaving a rich area of culture and design history as well as the intellectual and research environment of the Imperial College, Royal Colleges of Music. The V&A has extended its presence following the exodus of the RCA’s Painting School, and now opens its doors to thousands of visitors from across the world. It’s “Friday Late” events are a great example of interaction with a public who support and enjoy the arts. The RCA is missing out on this dynamic. However, members of the RCA Society find these events a good excuse to see V&A exhibitions as well as meet up with others in old ‘stomping grounds’.
